UFC on Fox comes to us live from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. It's an excellent card highlighted by the main event of Carlos Condit vs. Demian Maia. Two of the top two welterweights go at it with the winner getting one step closer to a title fight. Whether that's an elimination bout against Stephen Thompson or a shot at Tyron Woodley's title remains to be seen.
The co-main event features former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, as he drops down to featherweight to challenge Charles Oliveria. This is a dangerous fight for Pettis, who desperately needs to get back in the win column after dropping his last three.
The main card rounds out with the return of Paige VanZant from Dancing with the Stars as she takes on Bec Rawlings and a rematch between Joe Lauzon and Jim Miller.
The Main Card
Carlos Condit (30-9) vs. Demian Maia (23-6) | Current Line: Condit -120, Maia ev.
Carlos Condit is coming off a split decision loss to Robbie Lawler in his last fight. It was fight many people thought Condit won, including myself. Condit's strength is his striking and it's definitely going to be his path to beating Maia. Condit's weakness is his ability to defend the takedown, which is somethoing he must do to beat Maia.
Maia comes into the fight on a five-fight winning streak. Maia's takedown skills are among the best in the sport and if he's successful in keeping Condit on the mat, it's going to be along night for Carlos.
Condit seemed ready to retire after his loss to Lawler, but this fight kept him from going through with it. I think we're going to see the best of Carlos, but will it be enough?
Winner: Condit by TKO
Anthony Pettis (18-5) vs. Charles Oliveira (21-5, 1 NC) | Pettis -225, Oliveira +175
If there was ever a fighter that needed a win, it's Anthony Pettis. Pettis' strength is his striking, the problem is, in his last fights in which he lost, he didn't utilize what made him one of the best fighters in the UFC. In order for Pettis to win he must start quick and let his hands go.
Oliveira on the oother hand, will be looking for a submission from the get go. Charles can't stand and trade with Pettis, for him to win he has utilize his superior grappling skills and look to submit Pettis. The question is, can he get in close enough or will Pettis' reach and jab keep him at bay.?
Winner: Oliveira by decision
Paige VanZant (6-2) vs. Bec Rawlings (7-4) | Current Line: VanZant -225, Rawlings +175
VanZant's last fight was a loss to Rose Namajunas before taking a break to compete in Dancing With the Stars. Paige will look to utilize her strength which is her wrestling. Look for her to keep Rawlings on the mat while working for a submission. While Bec is as tough as they come. Her best chance at pulling off the upset is for her to catch Paige late in the fight.
Winner: VanZant by submission
Joe Lauzon (26-11) vs. Jim Miller (28-8, 1 NC) | Current Line: Laizon -145, Miller +115
This should be war. Both fighter are coming off wins in their previous fights. There won't be much of a feeling out process in this one as both guys will come out strong and be the aggressor. I expect Lauzon to control the fight while landing the bigger shots.
Winnner: Lauzon by decision
