UFC 199 takes place Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. The main event features Luke Rockhold as he defends his middleweight title against Michael Bisping, who steps in on short notice after Chris Weidman suffered an injury. This will be the second time the two rivals face each other. Their first meeting was a lopsided victory for Rockhold back in 2014.
In the co-main event Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz faces Urijah Faber for the third time. Cruz and Faber each have a win in the series, with this third fight probably concluding the rivalry. The rest of the main card rounds out with Max Holloway vs. Ricardo Lamas in the featherweight division, Dan Henderson takes on Hector Lombard in a middleweight showdown and in the lightweight division Dustin Poirier goes up against Bobby Green.
Looking at the Tale of the Tape, Luke Rockhold holds the advantage over Michael Bisping in height, reach and age. Add to it the fact that Rockhold is the superior athlete, the more balanced striker, the better grappler and better at submissions and you have what looks like a one sided fight. Unfortunately for Bisping I don't see this fight going any differently than their first encounter. Rockhold holds the advantage in every category and is just the superior fighter.
Dominick Cruz is on the short list of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. Although I did score the fight in favor of TJ Dillashaw back in January. This will be a more competitive fight than people expect. Faber is motivated and determined to beat his longtime rival. Cruz’s style lends itself to the fight going all five rounds, which gives Faber a longer chance to score a submission win. Cruz is by far the busier fighter getting his shots in while rarely getting hit himself. Should the fight go the entire five rounds, which I think it will, I just don't see Faber winning enough rounds to get a decision.
In the upset of the night, Dan Henderson will get a TKO victory over Hector Lombard in a highly entertaining slug-fest.
