WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross’ latest blog was posted on Tuesday at www.jrsbarbq.com. Here are the highlights:
Mike Johnson of PWInsider is Jim Ross’ latest guest on the Ross Report podcast at www.podcastone.com and iTunes.
Ross feels that Miz is a good choice for IC champion as he has been reinvented with Maryse and is very beatable which is a great trait for an antagonist champion. Fighting Champion Response: I'm enjoying Miz's act and the addition of Maryse has only added to the character. It's been hot potato with the IC title lately so it will be nice to see someone settle in with it for an extended period of time.)
Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Cesaro and Miz have put themselves in a position to turn heads, have their popularity measured in TV ratings, be strong in ring and create more worth for themselves. (FC Response: This angle over the IC Title is one of the best things going right now.)
Ross feels Ambrose and Jericho should never have a bad wrestling match as the two prepare to go one more time at Extreme Rules.
Rusev winning the battle royal to become the #1 contender for the U.S. Title did not bother him. JR thought Rusev was on his way to becoming special when his winning streak was prematurely ended. He thinks the U.S. Title needs comparable TLC like the IC Title is currently getting in an effort to resurrect the title from pre show, prelim status. (FC Response: While some of the booking decisions were questionable, I liked Rusev winning. Anything that gets Lana and Rusev back together I'm all for.)
JR feels the Women's Title situation is reeling somewhat from Payback. The goal is to go out, have great matches and move forward in a positive manner. Anything else he feels is unproductive. (FC Response: From everything I've heard and read it seems pretty unanimous that this match and finish was not well received. I agree, while I thought the match itself was decent, the finish was terrible.)
Getting Becky Lynch back involved is good. Jim thinks she is one of the most underrated talents on the roster. He also says it's good to see Emma getting her due as well. (FC Response: Although I didn't particularly care for their match on RAW, I'm a big fan of Becky Lynch and hope to see her back in the title hunt sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, I don't think Emma is connecting with the crowd. A better back story and purpose from her perspective would help.)
Ross thinks WWE has to accelerate the story being told of who Anderson and Gallows are and their history with A.J. Styles in order for viewers to get emotionally invested in the story. The Bullet Club does not have mass audience recognition; therefore, more information is needed in order to form a better opinion on the characters. (FC Response: Yes, I couldn't agree more. I will take it one step further and say WWE botched the duo's debut. I go into more detail on this subject in my WWE RAW Random Thoughts and Opinions blog posted yesterday, which I encourage you to check out.)
WWE decided to send Ryback home after a spirited discussion over a new contract. Ross says it works infinitely better when one converses and does not confront when dealing with any facet of business. Ross sees Ryback being booked similar to the Warrior or as a large, overbearing bully.(FC Response: Ryback was over back when he was a babyface doing the Feed Me More chant, since then he's been turned too many times leading audiences to lose interest. Hopefully Ryback makes the decision that is best for him, whether that's in WWE or pursing other ventures.)
JR suggests checking out the WWE Network TV-MA animated series, Camp WWE. He says Vince McMahon steals the show. (FC Response: I have yet to see Camp WWE, but I plan on viewing it soon.
You can catch the ROH PPV this Sunday on the Fite TV app. The app is free.
It looks as if there will be more boxing on CBS Sports Network for Jim Ross. This fall the show will move to Friday nights, all TBD. (FC Response: This is good news for those that enjoy boxing as well as the opportunity to hear JR back on the call.)
Fite TV is promoting the Canelo vs. Kahn fight in Las Vegas this weekend. (FC Response: For those that don't know, Jim Ross is an investor in Fite TV. Here's to hoping it's a huge success.)
