The WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, OK hosts Bellator 151 on Friday. The four-fight main card is headlined by former Bellator Bantamweight champion Joe Warren against Darrion Caldwell. The co-main features Welterweights Fernando Gonzalez versus UFC veteran Gilbert Smith, who replaces Michael “Venom” Page. This will be Smith’s first fight in Bellator after he fought four times for Resurrection Fighting Alliance.
The card is rounded out with Featherweights Bubba Jenkins versus Goiti Yamauchi and Bantamweight Joe Taimanglo against UFC veteran Sirwan Kakai.
This is an important fight for both Joe Warren and Darrion Caldwell. A win for Warren puts him back in title contention, while a win for Caldwell continues his rise as a fighter to contend with by beating his biggest challenge to date. Caldwell is 5-0 in Bellator, finishing three of the five. Joe Warren has won six out of his last seven fights in Bellator. I expect this to be a very good fight and I would not be surprised if either fighter won. Both fighters have strong wrestling backgrounds, but I feel Caldwell’s skills are a notch better. Between Caldwell’s superior wrestling skills and his size and height advantage I see him getting the decision win over the former Bellator champion.
Gilbert Smith replaces Michael Page when he goes against Fernando Gonzalez in this Welterweight match up. The well traveled Gilbert Smith is making his Bellator debut while also currently holding the Welterweight title in Resurrection Fighting Alliance. Fernando Gonzalez, undefeated in Bellator has won his last four fights. His most notable win was an upset of former Welterweight Champion Karl Amoussou at Bellator 122.
